Udhiya/Qurbani 2020 – OUR IMPACT
When the month of Thul Hijjah comes around, United Hands Relief attentively carries out Udhiya/Qurbani on behalf of our donors, continuing the example of sacrifice and devotion set by Ibrahim (AS). It’s a legacy that was sealed by Muhammad (PBUH), who sacrificed two animals each Eid Al-Adha. When asked what Qurbani is, the Messenger (PBUH) answered, “It is the Sunnah of your father Ibrahim. For every hair of the Qurbani you receive a reward from Allah.” (Al-Tirmidhi)
This year, despite the unprecedented hardship and restrictions that many of us faced due to the novel COVID-19 pandemic, our supporters provided a staggering 65,00 people with fresh, nutritious meat on the days of Eid. Your support has helped poor, hungry refugees stay fed and nourished at this special time of the year. Our Udhiya/Qurbani program benefited around 11 countries: Palestine, Jordan, Turkey, Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, Yemen, and Egypt.
Palestine (Gaza & West Bank)
Almost 2 million Palestinians in Gaza don’t have enough food to eat and are facing hunger, malnutrition and the threat of COVID-19. During Eid Al Adha, your support helped us fight food insecurity in Palestine providing fresh Qurbani meat to 5,000 people in the Gaza Strip and 5,000 people in the West Bank. Each family received 2 kilograms of fresh meat.
Syrian Refugees (Jordan, Lebanon, and Turkish border)
Since the United Nations warned of an unprecedented food crisis in Syria, 6.5 million people are now struggling to feed themselves, particularly in Northern Syria. With your help, during Eid Al Adha, we managed to provide 800 Syrian refugees with 2 kgs of lamb for each family in Jordan, Lebanon and families sheltering on the Syrian-Turkish border. Our focus was on widows and orphans’ families.
Bangladesh (Rohingya Refugees)
Bangladesh is home to over one million Rohingya refugees who fled the violence and are living in overcrowded IDP camps. Your support helped us provide neglected and displaced refugees in the world’s largest refugee camps – COX’s Bazar with fresh meat during Eid al Adha. We were able to reach 800 families.
There are also over a million vulnerable Rohingya refugees still living in Bangladesh, the majority in camps that are overcrowded and neglected. You helped us to provide 6,000 people in Ibrahimpur, Brahmanbaria District, with nutritious beef, helping a total of 1,351 families to stay nourished during Dhul-Hijjah. If you donated your Qurbani in Bangladesh, you provided around 2 kilograms of fresh meat to 5 vulnerable families, including those whose livelihoods have been affected by floods and COVID-19, and families with widows, orphans, and disabled people.
Pakistan
A staggering 41 million people in Pakistan are undernourished. During Eid al-Adha, you helped us to fight hunger in Pakistan, providing 2,800 people with nutritious fresh meat.
Somalia
Your support enabled us to fight hunger in Somalia during Eid Al Adha, where we managed to reach 200 families and provided them with fresh goat and cow meat.
Egypt
In several provinces and villages of Egypt – in Cairo and Alexandria, we reached the poorest of the poor and provided shares of qurbani to 300 families. Each family received 2 kilograms of fresh lamb.
India
Almost 50 million people in overpopulated India live in extreme poverty and a quarter of the population are malnourished. As coronavirus spread across India, millions of families were forced out of work. With your support, during Thul Hijjah, we provided fresh nutritious meat to 800 families across India.
Ethiopia & Kenya
300 families in Kenya and 400 families in Ethiopia.
